What would it be like to visit Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, or any of the other planets in our solar system? Would it be hot? Cold? What would a person weigh on Saturn? Would there be air to breathe? Water to drink?
These questions and more were recently posed to third grade students at Krueger Elementary. The students used Britannica Encyclopedia Online to research facts about each of the planets. Then choosing their favorite planet, they searched for more information about it, such as for what or whom the planet was named, the size of the planet, its distance from the sun, and special or unique features about the planet. As a culmination to the unit, the students wrote postcards to their friends and families “back home” describing their visit to their favorite planet.
This unit was designed by Stephanie Cox at Steubing Elementary.
